Flashback Friday: Gaucho Pants

Source

UUUUUUUUUUggggggghhhhh!!!!!  I can proudly say that I did NOT participate in this trend. My wonderful friend, Laura, had the pleasure of working at Talbots while this awful style was in full effect. She loves to recall how older women wanted to pair these with knee high boots and she was glad to interject that "it wasn't cute".

Anyway, I know some of you thought it was the new yoga pant or that they were just comfortable... but boy they were so unflattering. I detested seeing girls pairing t-shirts, gauchos and wedged flip flops together! Gag me! :) So please... reminisce of that time you or your sister/friend/coworker/teacher wore gaucho pants and let's celebrate that it is no longer a trend!!

Flashback Friday: Jon B.

Some of you may not have a clue who this is... but I dabbled with BET when I was in elementary school soooo I was quite aware of who Jon B. was and I had a little crush on him. I can't even watch one of his videos now with out cringing but that is what was so amazing about 90's R&B.  Also, "They Don't Know" is a classic- so no shame! So this Friday, I chose to remind everyone of the talents of Jon B.- ENJOY!! By the way... if you want to see what he is up to you can follow him on twitter or visit his website!

DIY: Clothes Pin Picture Frame

*Great Christmas gift alert.

I was at Michael's and found this lovely wooden frame in the last call section for $8.00. I am always looking for a new way to add some decor in to our very plain home so alas a project was born. Total this project cost me $14.

What you will need:
  • (1) backless frame
  • (9) clothes pins
  • 1 roll of twine or jute
  • gold paint
  • sponge brush
  • staple gun

Step 1: Measure out how many inches you would like your strings to be apart. I measured the frame and divided the inches by 4 to get a good idea.  I marked each spot I wanted to put in a staple with chalk.

Step 2: The picture above is a little misleading. I realized after that I should put my staples vertically on the inside ridge of the frame.  Your staples will serve as the spot where you will be tying your jute.

Step 3: Paint your frame. I used metallic acrylic paint. I love acrylic paint because it doesn't take too long to dry and its easy to work with. I also used a sponge brush because I still  wanted the wood portion to come through.  I did about three coats and let it dry for 40 minutes.

Step 4: All that is left is hanging your pictures with clothes pins and finding the perfect spot in your home!

I hope you enjoyed  this! Don't be too stressed if you have to play around with your staple placement... the weight of your pictures/clothespins make the spacing seem off.  Also, the tighter you tie your jute/twine the less slack for slouching.

Joie De Vivre

I haven't posted one of these in some time but here are some snip bits of the great times I've had these past few months.

My lovely friend Carla and I were reunited on Halloween. She was Mrs. Frizzle and I was a jellyfish. Good times :)

Ceviche... need I say more?

Mind my finger. Beautiful water in Mexico.  We went on a cruise in September. It was just what we needed to relax

I really need to find out what this building is. My sister came in town and we took a ride on the Natchez down the Mississippi River and we came across this!

Stoic angel on a tomb. I found this very beautiful.

Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Review

Twiggy + Miracle Gel Top Coat
Okay, so initially I was EXTREMELY skeptical. Due to the fact that I work in retail, gel nails are a must for me. My hands are constantly in use; whether it'd be ringing up a sale, sending an email, putting up back stock or adjusting buckles... my hands are never idle.  The problem is I detest going to the nail salon!  You can now see why a product like this would have me rubbing my chin in thought. Anyway, Essie and Sally Hansen are my two top favorite nail polish brands so I decided to give this a go. I apologize for lack of photos.

How to: The process is extremely easy. All you do is apply two coats of your color of choice and top it off with the top coat.  Note: it must be a miracle gel color.  Sally Hansen advertises up to 14 days of color and shine.

At 14 days.
The Verdict: Okay, so Sally Hansen is right you will get 14 days of color and shine but it doesn't mean that your nails will not be chipped.  Unlike a gel manicure you would get at a salon, this will most definitely chip on you within a week.  I do know that chalky colors tend to chip faster than your vibrant shades so I am not 100% positive it isn't the entire line that is like this.  I also tested this out during one of the busiest times at my job... so others may find better results. All in all, it is defintely worth a try but don't look at it as a 14 day manicure.

Favorite Looks: Ready to Wear Spring 2015

Source: Style.com

The various collections shown at Spring RTW 2015 Fashion week could all be summed up by two words: retro inspired. I feel like there were touches of the past- mostly 60's & 70's that were coming back to remind us why those times were great! I especially loved how much layering I've seen and the marriages with busy textures and soft pieces.I also noticed a good bit of circular edges, fringe, and thick belts.  Below are pictures of my favorite looks that walked the runway!

Sunday Tea

1. How do you get free stuff to review and what is Influenster? -B.A. Trevors

ANYONE, that includes you, can review products via Influenster. In fact, if anyone wants to take part please send me an email (kimberly@fleurluxe.com) and I will gladly send you an invitation.  Influenster is a company that helps other companies get customer reviews on products. You get a trial period to try out items and then you get an email with a survey link. You must complete these surveys in order to participate in future programs. Its a win, win!  Outside of Influenster, I have been able to try out products for review simply by contacting the company directly.

2.  I'm a fan of recycling some may say that I'm a hoarder. What kind of items should I always keep in my closet and what kind of things should I purge? -Anon

If you have holes in your clothes- toss it! I would also purge those items that you have had for several years and have never touched. If you don't dye your clothes I would purge as soon as the color/material is degenerated.  If you dye your clothes hold on to those classic pieces that never go out of style  Again, if you don't want to throw those items away and want to use them- cut up your clothes for cleaning rags, pet clothing, throw pillows, quilts, etc.

3.  Any tips for Latina hair. I hate straightening it everyday and my natural texture is between wavy and straight and SUPER FRIZZY! Help! -Jessie

Ha, I understand this struggle way too much.  The key is smoothing out your hair. As Latinas, we tend to over due the gel because we want our hair to stay flat. Go for leave in conditioners that make your hair a little heavier but add the needed moisture. Also, use a boar bristle brush! This will be your best friend.  I like to use Aussie's Sprunch Mousse when I wear my hair naturally- its a leave in conditioner + mousse so you get the best of both worlds.  Another tips is taking your time with your hair, section out your hair when you apply product so you are thorough/efficient.

4. I've tried everything on your "how to wear heels comfortably" post. I still can't do heels. Is there no hope for me? -Eli

Medically speaking, no one should easily wear heels.  It really takes practice and sadly those beautiful shoes can ruin you. Eli, start with a kitten heel. Master it and then move on to a 4 inch heel. Take baby steps! You can do it.

Wear Heels Comfortably

I would absolutely be lying if I said "HEELS AREN'T SO BAD- ANYONE CAN WEAR THEM ALL DAY". Although, you will run in to freaks of nature who insist that their feet can't handle flat shoes and that they MUST wear 6 inch heels.  Now, I know we are all suckers for beautiful shoes and sometimes we think that there is no hope with our torture devices/heels and we must be in pain but I'm here to tell you that you can EASE the pain.

  1. Buy the right size.  I'm not even joking. This seems like common sense but if your heels are too big = blisters. If they are too small = corns/bunions.  See the trend. You can't afford to go wrong here.  Also, pace back and forth at the shoe store- this will be a great indicator on whether the shoe fit is correct. If you feel yourself slipping forward- go down in size. If the size down doesn't work- try a ball of foot pad! If nothing works- LEAVE THE SHOE BEHIND.
  2. Work on that strut. Walk HEEL then TOE, shoulders back, abs tighten, chest forward and head held up high.  If you have a wobbly walk or a strong step down your feet will be killed.  Practice makes perfect.  Walk around your house find what works for you. You want to master a light step that looks like an elegant glide.
  3. Wear insoles!  Listen, they were made for a reason!  These will help with the balls of your feet and offer more support!
  4. Take care of your feet. Yes, moisturize and scrape off the dead skin. Also, don't forget to stretch your toes and ankles daily.  Also, if you find that you are having issues- go see a doctor.
  5. Take breaks. I know, we all want to be glamorous 24/7 but it is never okay to wear heels for 9 hours straight. Take a seat, wear flats, and let your feet breathe.
  6. Be Smart. Walking all day long...don't wear stilettos!! Opt for a wedge or chunky heel. Platformed shoes are your friend- sure they look menacing but actually they are much more comfortable then they look.  Next, look at the sole. A heel with a rubber sole is also great because it will make your step more cushiony.

Chicken & Mozzarella Frittata

I actually whipped this recipe together Sunday night. Shane and I were so tired and had no desire to leave the house and this made a quick and savory meal.

What you need:
6 eggs
Fresh Mozzarella
1 tomatoe
1 tsp of EVOO
1/2 cup of milk
Choice of cooked meat
Choice spices

Prep time: 20 min
1.  Cook your preferred meat. In my case, I used shredded meat from a rotisserie chicken.  This will save tons of time.
2. Start up your broiler and place your frying pan over medium heat. Pour in the olive oil.
3. In a bowl, mix your eggs, milk and spices. After, slice your tomatoes and mozzarella.
4. Pour mixture into pan. As the bottom begins to solidify,  begin to add toppings.  Continue to add toppings until satisfied and bottom of frittata is browning.
5. Put pan into broiler for 7 minutes.  You want to make sure that the top is cooked thoroughly.
6. Once cooked, remove from broiler and cut with a pizza slicer.

I used a 10 inch frying pan. Note: the smaller the pan... the thicker the fritatta.

Time is of the Essence

Time is of the Essence

There is nothing more important than time.  That is a lesson that I have learned in the past year.  I don't think I've ever worked so much before and quite frankly at the time, it didn't bother me.  That is, until I started realizing what was happening.  Family time... I'll see them another time? Friend time...they'll understand, we can reschedule?  Husband time...he understands, right? Me time...huuuh?  At the end of your life what do you want to remember? Do you want to think about how many hours you put in at work and the success it got you or didn't get you or do you want to remember your quality time?  I say the perfect answer is you want both- but balanced.  There is a bible passage that comes to mind- Ecclesiastes 3

Ecclesiastes 3 (NIV)
There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:
a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.
What do workers gain from their toil? 10 I have seen the burden God has laid on the human race. 11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet[a] no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.12 I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. 13 That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is the gift of God. 14 I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that people will fear him.
15 Whatever is has already been,
    and what will be has been before;
and God will call the past to account.[b]
16 And I saw something else under the sun:
In the place of judgment—wickedness was there,
in the place of justice—wickedness was there.
17 I said to myself,
“God will bring into judgment
both the righteous and the wicked,
for there will be a time for every activity,
a time to judge every deed.”
18 I also said to myself, “As for humans, God tests them so that they may see that they are like the animals. 19 Surely the fate of human beings is like that of the animals; the same fate awaits them both: As one dies, so dies the other. All have the same breath[c]; humans have no advantage over animals. Everything is meaningless. 20 All go to the same place; all come from dust, and to dust all return. 21 Who knows if the human spirit rises upward and if the spirit of the animal goes down into the earth?”
22 So I saw that there is nothing better for a person than to enjoy their work, because that is their lot. For who can bring them to see what will happen after them?
So the lesson I want to share with you is clear- enjoy your work, take time to enjoy yourself and always be thankful. Don't burn yourself out on one thing but enjoy your life and job as much as you can. :)

Flash Back Friday- Backstreet Boys

Backstreet Boys in the 90's

Backstreet Boys in 204

Some of you loved N'Sync more but, I was digging the pop ballads from Brian, Nick, AJ, Kevin and Howie.  Would you say I was a die hard fan... no!!  I, however, did sing along to all of their songs and I thoroughly enjoyed their "Everybody" music video.  These guys are still touring around the globe and are doing their thing. However, they no longer wear ridiculous matching outfits :(  BTW- I was a Kevin/Howie kinda girl! Who did you have a crush on?

Below you will find their latest music video and 3 of my favorites!!

How To Wear a Kimono

Kimonos

Kimonos are the latest summer must have. They have been circling around for a while but, it looks like they are finally exploding. Which is no surprise considering how versatile and practical a kimono can be.

These kimonos can be looked at as very boho but paired with the right accessories you can find yourself looking super chic! Also, if you play your cards right you can dress them up or even use them as a swim suit cover up!

How To Wear a Kimono

How To Wear a Kimono by fleurluxe featuring Topshop

A. Dress it up!!  Get a plain kimono with soft details and pair it up with a fitted cocktail dress and you have yourself a romantic, chic after five look.  Don't forget to have fun with your color palette and make it fancy with some sparkling baubles!
B. Boho Babe.  I love this look! Mix and match patterns and keep the rest simple. This is an easy way to turn a not so amazing outfit into something selfie worthy!  Details are everything so be sure to add little touches like antiqued jewelry & smokey eye shadow.
C. Keep it Cool.  This is the most favorable way to wear a kimono. This is the ultimate festival uniform.  It also doesn't hurt that its cute as a button. Pair your floral kimono with some ripped jorts and gladiator sandals to call it day!  Circular sunglasses, wavy hair, and knuckle rings are a must with this.

Goodbye Pony Tail

Before my wedding I was adamant about making sure my hair was super long. So it began, I was growing it out and getting it trimmed every so often. Well fast forward to now and I hadn't cut my hair since June 2013.  I would get compliments on the length and thickness but, I felt like Cousin It!! My hair wasn't healthy at all and was consistently in a pony tail or bun.  It was just long out of pure laziness.  So, I opted for a dramatic change.  I didn't want to just trim it and letting it keep growing- I was dead set on cutting and not turning back.  This hair cut is rather significant for more reason than the obvious. It's a push to stop being lax with my beauty routines and to push myself to change.

BTW if you live in the New Orleans area, please check out Tiffani's Mirror - She's super sweet and does quality work!

Petite Sunday Tea

I only had two questions in my inbox so this will short and sweet!! If you have any questions you'd like for me to answer- email me at kimberly@fleurluxe.com

1.  Prom is right around the corner and I want to look nice! I know that sounds odd because everyone wants to look nice but I'm a tomboy. I never wear makeup or anything so I'm rather clueless when it comes to this stuff. I don't have any older sisters to ask this to so I'm hoping you can help.  I'm wearing a light blue dress. It doesn't have any sparkles on it. I was told by the lady at the store that I should do silver shoes but I don't like silver. What other color can I wear? Also, is it awful to not wear heels to prom? I'm 5'8" and my date is taller than me so technically I can wear heels but I don't want to be uncomfortable. -Reyna

I think you should do a nude shoe!  Nude is actually very easy to find and it will definitely match. As far as heels go- if you don't want to wear them don't. You mentioned you were a tomboy and if you feel like you would rather spend the night in nice flats- why not? Maybe you can get a pair of nude patent leather flats that you can wear after with jeans! Email me if you are confused about anything else. I'll be your big sister.

2.  What's your laundry routine? Do you take things to dry clean a lot? Do you separate your clothes by color or fabric?  -JRB

I'm actually pretty awful about doing laundry "correctly" but I do have some tips that I learned from a textile class I took and my mother.

  • If it says "dry clean only"- take it to the dry cleaners.
  • Read your tags carefully
  • It is always better to use cold water to wash clothes
  • Try not to use the dryer so much
    • If you can- lay your sweaters flat to dry and shape them well
  • You don't have to wash your clothes after EVERY wear. I'm talking more about jeans, blazers, etc.

Secrets & Coffee

I am currently waiting at a cafe for a friend so I figure why not share some secrets over java goodness.

1. In true creep fashion, I always check people's hands and scent. I myself am guilty of not having a constant manicure but I feel like you can learn so much from one's hands. Smell is also very prevalent to me... guys that wear too much cologne are usually my enemies.  If I smell Chanel no.5 I am drawn to that person. True story.

2.  I have a wicked sense of humor.  I laugh at awful things. I try to fighht it and be "mature" but that proves difficult to me. For instance, when people post over confident selfies i laugh so hard.

3.  I constantly find that I avoid group events.  I am pretty easy going but I suppose that my idea of a fun night involves few people.  I don't love hanging out in groups.  Mainly cause it is more people to entertain. Meh.

4. People with self entitlement issues KILL me. Unfortunately, it seems that this is the new trend. People deserve things for nothing... somehow. I am avid believer in hard work. I do know that breaks in life are great but geez thinking you deserve to get things fast and easy kill me!!!

5. I love Eric Bana. Yeeeep, this is true. I do not blush but for some reason.. i blush everytime I see him on tv or online. IDK, there are more attractive people im sure. He is just amazing.

6.  When I was young, I found my parent's alien cards and I freaked out. I was like "oh my, if they are aliens...that means... I AM AN ALIEN!! It was a very scary 30 minutes. My mother told me that she wasnt from outerspace and cleared it up.

7. My husband is a nerd. I mean this in the nicest way possible. It makes him so attractive to me.  He reads his little sci-fi books and loves his technology. He knows the quirkiest little things and has to research EVERYTHING.  Does he like to take me dancing... heck no but I can live with it.  He's my cool little nerd.

Joie De Vivre

~Remember that if life isn't hectic than you are doing too little.~

This should have posted weeks ago!! :)

Orpheuscapade

I had the pleasure of going with my friends to Orpheuscapade. It's a formal ball that takes place after the Orpheus parade. It's great- the parade goes right through the Convention Center and ends with cocktails, food, and live music.  This year we took a silly group picture!  Don't mind my sexy and I know it. :)

Lavender Roses

Unfortunately, Shane's car got totaled so we had to get a new vehicle. We went with a Honda Civic. Naturally with a new purchase of a car- the dealership gave us a bouquet of roses. Perhaps it was because it was a bittersweet end to such a headache of an event that I just loved those roses!!

My new baby.

While everyone around me is getting baby fever- I got puppy fever. Shane surprised me with this bad little puppy two weeks ago. Her name is Ember. She is the most adorable thing ever. We aren't sure which breeds she is mixed with. The shelter paperwork states that she is an Australian Cattle dog Mix but she is very tiny. She is now 12 weeks and only 4.4 lbs.

Spring Wreath

I'm seriously the worst wreath maker ever- but it doesn't stop me. One day, I will be the best around town. This very obnoxious and unimpressive wreath hangs on my front door inviting the spring weather.  When I get home from work- it is a constant reminder that I have to make time for hobbies.

Muses Parade

Mardi Gras was great this year and I'm actually sad that it was so early in the year. Now, I have to wait that much longer for the next season to roll around. I made it a point to go to Muses this year! I didn't catch a shoe but I had a great evening with friends. For those who aren't familiar with this parade- YES, that is a giant pump! It's their first float and the whole parade is all about shoes!

Spring 2014 Trend Alert: Nude & White

Nude & White

Nude & White by fleurluxe featuring leather strap sandals

Nothing looks more pristine than crisp white and nude.  I know when you think of spring you think pastels immediately.  This spring, opt out of the usual pinks and mints and get chic!  I particularly love nude and white mainly because you can mix and match pieces from these looks and pair it with literally any other color in your closet.  When it comes to footwear, I'm not the biggest fan of white shoes and now that blush and nude have become such popular shoe colors; it's going to be EXTREMELY easy to get yourself a staple shoe for spring!

SUPER SUNDAY TEA!!

Oh the tea is steaming today and it needed to!!  Apologies for not getting to this sooner!!  Here we go 13 questions!!!

Remember- submit any questions to kimberly@fleurluxe.com

1.  Do you think it is okay for celebrities to be so open about their drug use?  It seems like everyone is talking about smoking weed or popping pills like it's whatever.  I'm 17 and haven't had the slightest urge to pursue any of those things. -Rhitah

I feel that through out history artist have been open about drug use. I commend you for not giving in to drugs. GUYS, IT'S NOT CUTE!!  To answer your question- I'm indifferent.

2.  Boyfriend is clearly cheating on me but I can't seem to catch him in the act! Any advice? -Laura

Ha!! How sure are you that he is cheating?  Have you asked him straight up?  Okay, if you want to bust someone cheating just simply look through their phone. If that isn't enough- stalk.  Or you can just take the easy way out and break up with him because you clearly do not trust him!

3.    My future mother in law is pressuring me in to having one of my fiance's cousins as a bridesmaid. I already have a big wedding party and don't feel like adding another. Is it so wrong? My own cousins aren't even in the party!  I feel like she is getting really upset about me not doing it yet! Heeeelp! -J. M.

Just say no. If she gets really upset, let it be.  There will always be someone upset about something at a wedding. No one is ever happy. Trust me by the time the wedding day rolls around she will forget everything!  If you are too afraid have your fiance talk to her.

4. I have trouble with filling in my eyebrows. Can you do an eyebrow tutorial? -Sasha

I'm not a professional but I will certainly try.  I didn't realize how important brows were until I started paying more attention to mine.

5. I know you love shoes- do you like tall gladiator sandals?- Ashley
Hmmm. It depends on what day you catch me. Today, I hate them but on some people they look super cute. I feel like only tall but healthy looking girls can pull them off.  Not for anyone under 5'5", in my opinion. Also, you need to have nice legs. Scrawny legs will look more scrawny and fat legs will look like sausages.

6. To put it bluntly, I hate my best friend.  Synopsis: She broke my brother's heart, started to hang out with a different crowd, and left me stranded at our school dance.  The problem is I have 3 classes with her and usually sit with her at lunch.  I don't really hate her but I'm really angry at her.  What to do? -Megan

Sorry to hear about your friend.  Well, just let her know that you have a problem with how she's been handling things lately. Don't be catty about it.  If you see things are just getting worse. Start networking! Make new friends and just end things with your friend on a peaceful note so that it isn't awkward when you see her.

7. I found out that all my boyfriend's friends hate me. They talk bad about me and came up with an awful nick name for me. :( I really like this guy but I can't stick around with his friend's calling me "hump dump".  I used to be promiscuous in high school but I've changed tremendously in the last 3 years. I don't like when people bring up my past because I'm ashamed. Can I save this relationship? -anon

Wow. First, I'm happy that you are no longer promiscuous.  To any reader who is being sexually liberal- read this as a warning. Unfortunately, you have to live with your past. Talk to your boyfriend and let him know that it makes you uncomfortable to be called names. Frankly, it is immature.  He needs to defend you. If he doesn't stand up to them they won't back down.  Also, ignore those guys. Once they see how you have changed they need to drop it!!

8. In April I'll be going on a few interviews for jobs in California. I'm trying to get into real estate.  I'm from Southeast Mississippi and have little to no fashion sense.  I'm sure once I'm out there I will get a better sense of who the people are and how I should present myself better but how do I look the part for the interview? I need this job -Cadence

That's so awesome! Congrats on your endeavors and I hope you make it there. The first rule of thumb is make sure that whatever you are wearing FITS. So if you are wearing a pant suit- take it to a tailor and make sure it fits perfect. You also want to keep make up simple. Don't do anything like winged liner. Just wear enough make up to wear they know you are wearing make up but it really just accentuates you. If you are thinking of lipstick do something semi-bold like a medium plum or deep rose.  Remember, you are selling yourself.  So you want to look as good as possible but just make choices that scream good taste and not over the top.  If you are still stuck email me pictures of what you are thinking and I can respond back.

9. As a girl, it is super hard to be the first one to say "I LOVE YOU!" but I am so ready to tell him that I'm in love. He hasn't said it yet either. I'm scared. He seems very into me and perhaps he's in love but I just want to tell everyone I know that I love him.  Should I say it first? How? -Ezmer

Love is in the air!!  Being in love is such a great feeling!! Being scared is very natural especially if he is your first love.  I think you guys should talk about your relationship and just tell him that you love him. Worst case scenario is that he doesn't love you.  It seems awful but sometimes people take longer to form proper attachments so it's okay. :) As long as you guys are happy who cares?

10. Um, hi, what if I told you that I caught my mom cheating on my dad and don't know what to do? -Anon because I really don't want anyone to know

Eeeeks.  If you are 100% sure that your mom is cheating you should bring it to your mom's attention if she doesn't already know that you know.  Your dad has a right to know as well but encourage your mom to come clean. That's a very nasty situation.  Good luck to you.

11. I don't have lots of money but I love buying cosmetics. This leaves my only options to be drug stores or discount online stores. What is your best trick for finding the right shades in foundation? -Kerry

Very good question. If I were you I would first figure out what your undertones are. Are you more yellow or pink?  Once you figure that out you can choose colors a bit better. Trust me, it takes a bit of trail and error. Also, once you get to know the brands better you will start to pick up on who has more yellow or pink their formulas and can go from there. I would also read reviews on it.  If you know your perfect shade in a different brand you can always google and see if anyone has a chart.  www.temptalia.com has a really good conversion chart that helps you find your color across brands

12. I've seen people ask you questions like this before but what's your philosophy on buying luxury brand items? I see people who have very humble jobs and aren't rich but they are lugging Louis Vuitton's, Hermes, Prada, and Gucci.  Some of these people are even buying matching shoes or are wearing Christain Louboutin- it irks me. What is your opinion on all of this?

I say don't buy something you can't afford.  Some people really work hard and save up so that they can buy themselves a really nice purse or pair of shoes and there is NOTHING wrong with that.  I don't think someone should go in debt for it.

13. I'm trying to change my look but not really know what to do. My friends and I are really "boho" and hipsterish. I'm about to be 25 and realize that that isn't the look I should keep.  Got any tips?

Changing your style is very fun. I love doing it. I think you should start by buying very basic pieces and growing from there. Everyone's personal style changes through out the years. You just have to go with things that you are naturally attracted to.

Beauty Review: Sally Hansen Complete Spa Manicure Nail Polish

If there is one thing to know about me- I LOVE AT HOME MANICURES. Call me crazy but something about the nail salon drives me crazy!! Courtesy of Influenster, I was able to test out Sally Hansen's Comple Salon Manicure nail polishes and I've got all the details for you!
Pros:
Seriously, the best brush ever!!!
  • Amazing Colors
  • Long Lasting
  • Don't need a top coat
  • Great Value
  • The brush is SPECTACULAR- made application extremely easy!!
Cons:
  • Not all colors provide the same shine or wear time
  • Needs about 3-4 coats

My favorite color was Jaded. It's absolutely gorgeous and a very trendy color for spring! I was able to wear these polishes for 4-6 days with out a top coat! When I tell you the shine on these polishes is great- it's great. I was really impressed and I'm definitely going to get more colors form this line.  Did I mention it's only $6.50?  I spend $9 on my favorite brand so again another great thing to think about.  Swatches below!!

Stomach Virus & Secrets

-I started writing this post on Friday the 7th but unfortunately- I was pretty bad off all weekend so couldn't finish it until today-
Moments before I was about to get super sick on vacation
Secret #1 I must admit that I've been absolutely discouraged to write anything on the blog because I certainly didn't give myself the time to. For anyone who has submitted a question for Sunday Tea in the past few weeks... I'm getting to you THIS Sunday. I'll actually be posting up everything tonight and will let it post up on a time schedule. So you have my word.

This is my current state: awful tummy cramps, old tshirt, messy hair and feeling defeated.  Today is not my day. I am almost positive that my dinner from last night is coming back to haunt me. So I figure, some of you want to get to know me a little better so why not today via blogger.

Binky & Luna
New Pup- To be named

Secret #2: I'm a cat lady. I have the best dog but I must admit kitties are my loves. I love the way they act when they are playful and I love that they give me space. I think their eyes are mysterious and their personalities are hilarious.

My cat, Binky, is my nurse. Anytime I am sick or sad he snuggles up next to me and stays with me until I'm better. He is currently at my side as I type.
*Update: My husband surprised me with a get well soon puppy! She's adorable. So now I'm a crazy dog lady too.

Things I shouldn't have but can't resist.
Secret #3: I passed gas at least 12 times at work today. No shame. When you are ill- your manners take a back seat.

I've always had stomach issues. I'm lactose intolerant so I'm constantly bloated or craving a milkshake.

Secret #4: I haven't had a hair cut since May 2013.  My hair looks awful and I should probably get one but I somehow manage week in and week out to be exhausted or have 5 million other things do. Its on my to do list.  My  hair is super long now- but shapeless.

I also haven't dyed my hair in ages. I was going to dye my hair for my wedding but again- NO TIME. I feel a big part of that was stress at work which equaled forgetfulness and exhaustion in my personal life.

Secret #5: I love my job.  Some of you guys already know that I work in retail.  Most people look down on that sort of profession or think of it as a college job and not a career. It is challenging and very rewarding at times. I especially love it because it keeps me on my toes, up on fashion, and I get to talk to all sorts of people every day.  Don't get me wrong, it's not my DREAM job but it is a job I am very passionate about.

Most people assume that I don't have a college degree- which is fine.  Some degrees, like mine, don't mean much unless you attend graduate school.  They also assume I'm super young (like 23) which is also nice!

Subjecting people to my awful siging many  years ago. WHAT AM I WEARING??
Secret #6: I relieve stress through song.  I find that after a SUPER long day at work or on an off day when I just want to relax; I sing. I even make up my own songs sometimes. Hahaha. I sing AWFUL. Which makes it funnier. I frequent the youtube karaoke channels.  However, you will never find me volunteering to sing in public.
