Artist of the Month- Jonny Lang

Jonny Lang!!

This guy is amazing live!  If you arent familiar with his music... then you need to be. He plays the blues and his guitar playing skills are pretty godly.  What can I say, the man is TALENTED!  He is best known for his hit "Lie To Me" though my favorite is "Give Me Up Again." Other noteworthy songs are "Red Light" and "Breaking Me."  He has gone into more of a Gospel direction lately but that makes him all the better. I've had the privilege of seeing him live twice and both times were pretty amazing. If you want to get into his music some more click these links! Also at the bottom I will be adding a video from when I saw him at Jazzfest... definitely check that out. You'll see what I mean when I talk about how great he is live!!

Rosary Lipstick
&
True Romance Palette-
Metal Orchestra

I'm a pretty average girl but if I had enough guts I would attempt my hardest to be as cool as Kat Von D. :) I think she is so gorgeous!  Well long ago when I heard about her coming out with a line at Sephora I was super pumped.  I never really got around to getting any of her stuff until now!  I bought the lipstick Rosary probably 5 months ago and I recently purchased the Metal Orchestra palette.  I can honestly say that although I will sparingly wear the products that I bought... I definitely don't regret it. There is a full swatch at the end!

Painted Love Lipstick in Rosary
First things first... the picture at the top that shows the lipstick + palette is a more accurate photo.  This one came out a little too bright!  The shade that I bought was Rosary.  It's a matte, super deep, burgundy. It's creamy and the staying power is pretty nice.  This shade is definitely vampy!  I think this looks great with a naked eye with a winged liner.  It's just one of those colors that you want to wear when you are feeling daring. I would recommend this lipstick for people with medium to darker skin tones.  It may flush you out if you are a little on the pale side.  However, if that is the look you are going for than this is your golden ticket.

True Romance EyeShadow Palette in Metal Orchestra

In general, the colors are pretty pigmented and are very appealing. In the palette only 2 are shimmers and that is Techno and Dagger.  All of the colors are satiny with dash of shimmer except for lucifer... that one is matte. Slayer is a metallic, cream shadow and it has a very nice texture and pigmentation is wonderful.  I would most definitely wear a primer with these.  Also, when working with these colors I would save foundation for last!  The fall out is pretty bad.

1. First Class- Frosty White
2. Techno- Royal Blue with silver shimmer.
3. Thrasher- Medium Blue (applies dark)
4. Dagger- Beautiful Navy with Blue Shimmer

5. Lucifer- matte charchoal (applies lighter)
6. Glock- Gunmetal (super pigmented)
7. Razor Gray- very light gray (applies lighter)
8. Slayer- Metallic Silver Cream Shadow

My favorites are First Class, Dagger, Glock, Razor Gray and Slayer!!

Sonia Kashuk Deluxe Travel Brush Set

When I began to wear makeup regularly I turned to Sonia Kashuk for makeup brushes.  The price was very reasonable and the brushes had a good reputation.  Since then, my brushes have been changed out to Bobbi Brown, Lauder, and other random brands. Yesterday I was feeling a bit nostalgic and was roaming around Target... and there it was the cosmetics section.  I saw an 8 piece brush travel set from Sonia Kashuk that came with a cute little case.  It was only $20... it came home with me.  I feel that now that I have more experience with other brush brands that I can give a pretty unbiased review about Sonia Kashuk brushes.  So here it goes....

For $20 you get 8 brushes... thats $2.50 a brush.  Thats a really good price!  So for $2.50  you get a brush that would probably be sold separately from another brand at around $15 each. Now keep in mind this is a travel set so the brushes will be shorter than the original size but the brushes are still a nice length. I think she sells her regular sized brushes anywhere from $6-$15. As far as quality of the brush goes, you do get a better quality than what you are paying for.  The brushes are soft yet dense.  So there are tons of bristles but its still flexible enough to give a good application.  Yes, there will most definitely be fall out but even my Bobbi Brown brushes had some fall out when I first got them.

In the package you get 1 blush brush, 3 flat eye shadow brushes, 1 concealer brush, 1 angled brush, 1 lip brush and 1 eyebrow brush.  The brushes have a flat handle which is a little weird to get used to but comfortable. They also are very light weight. The eyeshadow brushes are great for loose powder because of the way they are shaped and they are also good for packing on color.  I actually have found myself reverting to these brushes when applying eyeshadow.

All in all I would say that this is a great set for someone who is just starting out in makeup or someone on a budget.  There are better brands out there but with Sonia Kashuk you get a quality item with very little impact on your wallet.  On a scale of 1 to 10... based on quality, value, looks... this brush set gets a solid 8.  So if you are in the market for some brushes and aren't sure what you want and don't want to spend too much money this is the perfect set to get.

Suede Shoes during Spring

Yes... it's a bit alarming.  A winter/fall material during Spring??  Well if you are a little skeptical it's okay because most people are.  The key to wearing suede shoes during the spring is to make sure you have the right colors, detail and that you pair up your shoes with something light.

Reasons to embrace Suede during Spring
  • The colors are to die for. Suede material tends to achieve a more true, vibrant color. Leather is harder to work with as far color goes so suede has a major advantage over it.
  • Comfort!! Suede stretches a bit quicker so if you have wide feet suede is your friend!!!
  • Price.  Suede tends to be a less expensive material to work with even though its still leather. Most suede shoes will be cheaper in price and still have a very expensive look.
  • Design.  Since suede is easier to manipulate you will have the options in style.  Ruffles and flowers look so much better in suede. It just looks more dainty.

Now instead of the usual leather, linen, or canvas wedge you can throw on fabulous pastel colored suede shoes and get an even dressier look. Take this Joan and David pump... its a beautiful turquoise color.  However, its closed toe and suede... usually qualities that a winter/fall shoe would possess. In this case however, you can wear it during spring.  Besides the color it has a very feminine ruffle on the top.  Ruffles are most definitely a springy touch.  You can make a dress more formal by wearing these and still keep it light.  It's perfect for spring.

So now we find ourselves with the epitome of a spring/summer shoe that has fall like characteristics. This style by Steve Madden is the perfect shoes to ease your way into suede during the spring. There is no doubt in anyone's mind that this shoe was made for warmer weather even though its black, studded, and suede. This is a good casual shoe. You could wear this during the day with shorts or jeans and still get that spring feel with an edge.  The whole time you are wearing these it won't even cross your mind that you are suede during spring. :)
Sultre by Steve Madden and more great shoes!!

This shoe is one of my favorites. It's super springy and so feminine! This to me is the reason why suede should remain a staple during spring.  Look at the color. It's a beautiful soft, warm pink.  Something colored in that fashion in canvas or leather would not look nearly as good.  Also the ruffles are beautiful. What can I say... I'm in love. If this shoe doesn't prove my point I'm not sure what will.  It's a great spring shoe that is suede... simple enough!! :)

Just remember ladies don't' forget to spray you shoes down with suede protector!!
